Quantitative Research

In the simplest terms, quantitative research (surveys for the most part) allows an organization to understand the mood of a given audience. However, good research is far from simple.

Quantitative research provides an organization with a snapshot of attitudes and beliefs, but that is not just telling you what percent of people agree with you.

If you ask a meteorologist to tell you the weather and the answer is that there is a 20% chance of precipitation, that could be correct, but you are not really getting the information you need. What the outside temperature will be, when it might rain, how windy will it be, are also important pieces of information to make the best decision possible for that day.

The same is true with surveys. It is easy to tell an organization what percent of their audience agrees with the issue at hand, but that is just a small part of the story that needs to be known. Research done correctly will give you a complete picture and tell you not just what percentage supports or opposes your idea, but why they do.

Qualitative Research

While quantitative research puts numbers behind what people are thinking, focus groups and in-depth interviews allow us to test the exact language used in order to get meaningful feedback on what reaches people on a visceral level. In the public realm, issues often are painted as black and white, but the reality is that most people’s opinions truly are shades of grey. Qualitative approaches to data give light to these grey areas and produce a better understanding of what is behind people’s opinions.

Members of the Lincoln Park Strategies team have conducted hundreds of focus groups and countless one-on-one interviews with participants across the country and around the globe. Topics of these groups have been just as diverse as the locations and participants themselves, and have helped pinpoint the themes, language, and messengers that best advance our clients’ objectives.

With the advent of Artificial Intelligence the analysis on unstructured data has become not only faster, but much more powerful. What used to take weeks can now be done in hours and the connection between themes and words are found much more accurately. In fact the technology is now at a point where interviews can be conducted by AI programs in a way that the interview adjusts in real time and allows for more interviews to be conducted at a much quicker pace, and at a significant cost savings.

Data Analytics

Lincoln Park Strategies specializes in predictive modeling, a service that helps organizations increase the accuracy of targeting the correct groups of people whether your market is consumers, voters, or members, we can create a plan that will harness the power of data and help increase the effectiveness of any outreach effort.

Our proprietary methodology uses a unique set of questions designed to delve deeper into not just what people think, but how they think on economic, societal, and political issues. The results allow us to segment the population into various cohorts of likeminded thinkers. These groups, which vary based on the targeted area, are then replicated through our predictive modeling in order to classify all members of the intended universe.

Unlike most modeling approaches, which are developed through a reliance on static data sets and take a binary view on a target audience where you either are or are not a potential consumer target, our modeling gives a complete view of how people’s opinions fit in to their overall world view.

National Omnibus

Although research is often used to assist organizations with internal decision making, research can also support a broader public strategy of raising the profile of an issue, persuading elected leaders to take a stand given their constituents’ views, or creating a perception of the public will through data. The most effective means of doing so is through the release of “public” versions of the data to major media outlets.

To this end, Lincoln Park Strategies runs a monthly national omnibus of 1,000 Americans who are 18 and older. The sample is representative of the population as a whole, and all questions include standard demographic breakdowns such as gender, age, race, and party affiliation to name a few. We are well versed in tailoring a campaign’s research design to ensure that the results are of interest and usable by major public media outlets.
