13. As you may know,
some states have a Beverage Container Redemption program, where consumers pay a
5 to 10 cent per bottle deposit when purchasing certain types of beverages, and
then that deposit is refunded to the consumer when they return the containers to
a retailer or redemption center.

There
are a few states that are considering new Beverage Container Redemption
programs. While the exact plans can vary from state to state, below are common
components of the proposed programs across different states. Please rank each
on a scale of 0 to 10 where a 10 means you strongly support the approach and a
0 means you strongly oppose the approach.

Keeping more
beverage containers out of the landfill allows manufacturers to reuse the
materials, helping to alleviate supply chain issues. |

This type of
program encourages more recycling, which creates more jobs than when items
are sent to landfills. One study estimated that these programs create 11 to
38 times more jobs than a curbside recycling system for beverage containers
in the United States. |
7.60 |

Recycling and
reusing beverage containers lowers greenhouse gas emissions. For example,
recycling and reusing aluminum cans produces 80% less greenhouse gas
emissions than making an aluminum can from new materials. |
7.52 |

These programs
are set up to make it easy for consumers to return their containers and know
that the containers they are returning are actually being

in states that currently have Beverage Container Redemption programs are
often two times higher than the recycling rates in states without these
programs. |

returned to redemption centers are more likely to be recycled into new glass
bottles while glass bottles collected in curbside programs are more often
